Oh man, where do I begin? I might have to break this up into segments (only if you request more details!) my goodness, this trip was my favorite one yet.
Why Bali…. My eldest daughter was turning 21 and she did not want a party she wanted to go on a family vacay and Bali was her choice.
My husband and I had honeymooned in Bali about 18 years ago ( we actually flew out about 2 hours before it was bombed the first time) so it’s not a place I ever thought I would visit again.
However, this time I can honestly say I would be back in a heartbeat.
There are so many reasons I loved Bali: the sun, the water, the villa we rented, the people, in fact, the list goes on and on (and on!) Today I am going, to sum up, my trip, the excursions we went on, where we stayed. So let’s get down to the juicy details, you ready?
Where we stayed: Villa Dewata 3
I have always worked with a travel agent, I would give Maureen an A++ for always getting it right for us. Working with a travel agent always gets us the best prices, flight patterns that work, and she does all the research for us that saves us hours upon hours staring at a million internet tabs until our eyes glaze over.
However this time Maureen handled the flights and I handled the accommodation. I started investigating Private Villas.
I fell in love with Villa Dewata and booked 10 nights.
I absolutely loved this place and knew it would be a great fit for my family, my sister-in-law and my niece. It was able to cater to all of us 5 bedrooms of which 4 had ensuites and the villa also came with 3 staff and 24/7 security.
It was in Seminyak which is a fantastic area just what we were after.
What we did: Breakfast with the Orangutans, Bali Zoo, Jungle Quad Biking, Temple Visit, Bali Swing, Waterbom Park.
We decided to do Breakfast with the Orangutans, Bali Zoo and Jungle Quad Biking with Dewa from Bali Smart Tours and we paid approx $130 per person for everything including lunch after our Quad biking experience.
Dewa picked us up from our Villa at 6.45am and we were dropped off back at our villa at 4 pm.
Waterbom Park is a must-visit for anyone there is something for everyone.
We hired a Cabana by the lazy river approx $30 NZ (I have heard that you may need to book well in advance) however we were able to secure one-two days before our visit.
We also booked our tickets online much easier no big queues.
Also, Waterbom has a great system where you top up your band and this is how you purchase your food, Manicure, Pedicures, Massages, Ice creams, drinks and any extra rides that are not included in your pass.
We purchased a single day pass with all rides etc approx $67NZ
We arrived at 9 am and left at 2.30pm as Sephora was across the road (priorities) the boys in the family were outnumbered not that they minded. Plus had early dinner reservations that night.
Honestly, Bali is a spiritual place and if you are there I highly recommend visiting a temple or two there are so many options.
My niece and sister in law had never been to a temple so this is something I really wanted to make happen for them.
We hired a driver for $50 NZ who took us to a Temple and the Bali Swing another full day out.
Temple entry fee was $2 NZ and Bali Swing $30 NZ approx
Favorite Place for Breakfast: KYND
OMG, I love this place, we are all raving fans. Not only is there branding on point their breakfast Smoothie Bowls – delicious.
So delicious my 11-year-old asked to purchase their granola to bring home. So Dad stood in the customs line to declare (after the time it took I’m sure he was regretting it and ready to throw it in the bin)
Berry Smoothie Bowl and Almond Flat White $12 NZ
Favorite Place for Dinner (not so much the food but the atmosphere)
The vibe of this place is super cool. We had an 11-year-old and 3 young adults and 3 mature adults 🙂 and everyone loved this place.
The music, the beach, the sunset, the company, the Balinese selling you stuff we actually purchased more paintings we had already purchased 7 that day between us, my sister in law purchased necklaces.
The sunset was AMAZING and was a great way to spend our last full night in Bali.
This blew all of my expectations, the team at Villa Dewata are AMAZING! They decorated the Villa while we were out and the 21st girl came home to a beautifully decorated villa and room.
The Villa team also prepared a 3-course meal which was delicious.
We had drinks, speeches, gifts, video messages, a video of her 21 years, birthday cakes not one but two the Villa purchased a lovely cake for Tayla too.
And to top it all off the Birthday girl’s partner got down on one knee with a ring in hand and asked her to marry him…. She said YES!
Why Bali is my favorite holiday so far:
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to a few places, Thailand, Singapore, Kaula Lumpa, Maui, Rarotonga, Melbourne, Gold Coast but this was my favorite second time around. Why? It felt good to be in a warm climate! (It’s currently winter in NZ) Nothing felt unsafe the entire time, Bali life was relaxed, being here with my family, there wasn’t really a language barrier except they kept mistaken us for Australians.
There was so much to do, but don’t let our list fool you, we got in plenty of relaxing time, in fact, there were 2 days we didn’t leave the villa just swimming, laughing and creating memories.
