One of the biggest mistakes I see salon owners continuously making is …….

Drum roll, please..……

NOT MAKING THEMSELVES A PRIORITY!

“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you”

Self-care IS SUPER IMPORTANT for all aspects of your overall health.

It’s making you a priority. It’s carving out space in your chaotic schedule of creating a flourishing salon in order to breathe and let your mind and body rest. All that push push push and continuously working and trying to control everything is not doing you and your adrenals any good.

The fact is we can’t be working machines all the time. In fact, you’ll actually be even MORE productive, more creative, and more resourceful if you allow yourself some time to chill a little.

Self-care gives the brain a mini-vacation and allows you to step back, reflect, and reorganise your thoughts and direction.

Imagine if you prioritised just 5 or 10 minutes of that a day! How much more impact could you curate with your salon, your team, your clients and your family and friends.

Check out my 4 favourite self-care tips for on-the-go salon owners.

CREATE A MORNING ROUTINE

This is one of my favs and a non-negotiable for me every morning.

Creating a morning routine allows me to have time for me without any interruption. By doing this I am creating space to tune into how I am feeling and get my mindset into a place so I am rearing to go for the day.

My routine can change from day to day depending on how I am feeling however here are some of the fav things I like to do.(I normally do 4 or 5)

Journal
Affirmations
Visualisation
Mediation
Read
Listen to a podcast or a video where I will be learning something new
Exercise either a run or walk
Goal Planning
Plan my day

TAKE A WALK

Yep, self-care can be as simple as getting your booty out of bed earlier, leave the salon at lunchtime, or enjoy an evening walk get outside for a 10-minute jaunt. Leave your phone at home” I can promise you… The world will not end or pop some earphones in and listen to your favourite music, podcast or an audible.

Take some deep breaths and simply enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Even a short walk will wake you up and give you a boost of energy, and your body will just feel better getting some movement amidst a heavy day of clients, putting out fires, and dealing with all the other demands of being a salon owner.

UNPLUG FOR 30 MINUTES

I know, I know. This one gives me the shakes a bit just thinking about it. However, if you are a parent you will have such a greater understanding of the importance of time.

Especially today, we’re all so consumed with digital everything. It can be tough to set the screens down for 5 minutes, let alone 30. But giving yourself a half-hour (or more!) away from technology allows for more room for connection, conversation, and honestly just the release of stress. I know it sounds CRAZY. But just trust me and give it a try, and see if anything shifts at all.

TAKE A BATH

Imagine candles, bath salts, bath oils, essential oils, bubbles, (soap bubbles or champagne you pick) and a book.

This is one of my fav self-care activities 30mins of uninterrupted bliss. Which I like to do 2-3 times a week.

Not only do I feel relaxed, I feel calm and I can completely switch off and just enjoy being in the moment. Afterward, I feel I have a new sense of energy a calmness.

Pop on your favourite body oil or body butter and how good are you going to feel. Even if you do it for 10 -15 minutes.

Honestly trust me you want to give this a go!
